My Philosophy

Olivia Turner

My classroom will be a place for students to feel comfortable, powerful, useful, and important. My goal is to make certain that the students under my care understand that they can reach their full potential. Carol Dweck has derived a theory called the “Growth Mindset Theory,” which states that those with a growth mindset believe that ability and intelligence are obtained through one’s effort and skill working towards a goal. According to Dweck, your actions determine the outcome of a task. It is proven that those with a growth mindset result to be better learners, to cope better with failure, and to receive superior grades. My classroom theme will be "Watching them Grow." I want my students to believe in the abilities that they have to learn new things. Those with a fixed mindset, which is the opposite of a growth mindset, tend to limit themselves. Those with a growth mindset embrace challenges, persist when setbacks arise, and learn from criticism. I will always push my students to the best of their ability, showing them that they truly can do anything they set their minds to. Students in my classroom will thrive in an environment full of positivity and motivation.

"We like to think of our champions and idols as superheroes who were born different from us. We don’t like to think of them as relatively ordinary people who made themselves extraordinary."
